January 2010

Happy New Year!

Let’s All Hope 2010 is a Better Year!

As the New Year is upon us, we at AADT are excited with the new changes we have for our clients and the industry’s brokers. Our new website access has given our clients the opportunity to view their accounts online, process changes and even offer their brokers the opportunity to view their compliance throughout the year. Imagine having an inspection and you need a current list of your drivers enrolled in your drug and alcohol program, you just log on to our website and print the current list from your account. Our website access is user friendly and for those that are not computer savvy, we have account representatives that can assist you remotely from our office. We are certain that our new online access will provide everyone convenience and reliability.

Now to Our Clients:
In October of 2009, we mailed out about 6,500 company renewals and as of around January 10, we have received around 4,000 back, 62%. For those that have not renewed for 2010 you are now out of compliance because your enrollment for 2009 expired December 31st.

We received many calls the last week of December from clients saying they “just completely forgot”. It’s important to remember that our enrollment runs on a calendar year January 1st through December 31st of every year, which is reflected on your enrollment certificate, regardless of your enrollment date.

The program Renewals are mailed the first week of October hoping to provide enough time to be returned before our December 15th deadline, which guarantees that most of the certificates will be mailed by December 31st.

Why is it important to enroll in a timely fashion?

Well, once enrollment has expired on December 31st you or your company are no longer enrolled and out of compliance. Meaning if you still haven’t enrolled and are driving, you are not enrolled in a drug and alcohol program.

What does this affect?

It could affect your BIT inspection if they find out there’s a lapse in enrollment. If out of a program more than 30-days then you will need to do a pre-employment drug test which will affect your finances for an additional cost of $56 per test. It can be costly for those of you with multiple drivers.

According to our experience in dealing with CHP and DOT inspectors, they seem to follow the following criteria regarding lapse in enrollment over 30-days:

A driver is required to perform a pre-employment drug test if it has been more than 30-days since the driver has participated in a random Drug and Alcohol Testing Program.

So for those of you that still have your renewal sitting on your desk, please take a moment to fill it out and send it over so that it can be processed quickly. If you need assistance, just call us at our toll free number (800) 820-9314 and we can help.

We at AADT hope that 2010 will shine a bit brighter for our clients and CDTOA members. Our continued appreciation goes out to all our clients for giving AADT the opportunity to serve you!
