So What Do You Actually Do – Mom/Dad?
CDTOA/AADT Hosts First Ever Kids Day!

CDTOA and AADT set out to do something new this year; we hosted our very first Kids Day on November 25th. The goal of this event was to show our children where we all worked, the equipment that we all use and describe a little about what we all do day to day. All staff was given the opportunity to bring their children and/or grandchildren to work and even see some trucks up-close. Our outside sales representative, Betty Plowman who was not able to participate, but was happy to have her granddaughter Alex represent her family.

In hosting this type of event we had to make sure that we had activities and food that would be appealing to the various ages anticipated to arrive, which varied from 2 years to 17 years old. Upon arriving, the children were given an opportunity to color in their names which were printed on banners. Once completed, they hung them on the walls throughout the office. The office was decorated with welcome banners and balloons with the help of Lisa Heap’s daughters. Many of the staff took the time to explain and demonstrate to their children/guests what they do on a daily basis in their work areas.

We then all gathered in our vehicles and headed out for a field trip to Superior Trailer Works in Fontana. There we met with Jay Pocock, owner of Superior Trailers who gave the staff and children a tour of his facility explaining how a trailer is built from the ground up. Jay explained why truckers use different types of steel and the fact that the U.S. doesn’t even make the grade steel he mainly used to build his trailer bodies. We also had a demonstration of a transfer truck and trailer “transferring” and then the children were given an opportunity to take a ride around Superior’s yard. The most exciting was some of the adults were given the opportunity to drive the transfer truck without the trailer. Jay and his family were invited back to the office for a day full of fun filled activities and have hot dogs and pizza from Sam’s Club.

Our office parking lot was taped off for the combo Jumper and Slide. Tables were set up for face painting, and sand art. Various Christmas ornaments, frames and gift bags which were given to hold their various items that needed to be decorated. Many of the children and staff assisted the other children in decorating or creating their sand art. Mr. Hito the Magician arrived to perform his magic show and balloon creations. He had all the children fully involved in his magic act.

It was an exciting and fun day for all and I know that my three grandchildren enjoyed their day at Nana’s work; they want to know when they will be able to come back. Here’s hoping that we have started an event for our families to participate in. We will try to do this every few years if we can!

We want to especially thank Jay and his family for helping the staff better understand trucks, trailers, their size, how they work and how costly they cost and why.

Both staff and their families had a great experience!

It was truly a great way to build teamwork and show our families what we do and what industry we service.
